th more than fifty additional hours to meet customers needs.
Omagh Library now opens to 8pm for four evenings from Monday through to Thursday and Enniskillen and Strabane Libraries are open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays to 8pm.
In Londonderry, Central Library opens its doors to 9pm on Mondays and to 8pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays while Waterside and Limavady Libraries are open on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings to 8pm. Helen Osborn, head of libraries said: "We have had a long consultation process and have taken the decision to extend opening hours especially in the evenings and on Saturdays when some families and working adults might not have been able to use their library".
"Changes mean all libraries are now open on Saturdays and in every council area there is at least one library open all day on Saturday. It means an improved service for customers in Limavady, Waterside and Strabane who now will have libraries open for six days a week, she said.
"While many library authorities are seeing declining use, WELB libraries are welcoming more visitors, lending more books, CDs and DVDs and giving more people free access to computers and the Internet. Longer opening hours will give the public greater opportunity and flexibility to choose when they visit their library. These changes bring WELB libraries in line with opening hours in other parts of Northern Ireland and mean that the Library Service exceeds the standards set by the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure for opening hours," she said.
