In Donegal, a 29-year old Garda was seriously injured in an incident in which he was struck by a car at Letterkenny, at about 4:30 am on Thursday (March 26, 2009).
The Garda received head and arm injuries when he was struck by the car as he got out of a police patrol car in the Tara Court area of Letterkenny town. He was taken for treatment to Letterkenny General Hospital.
A Garda spokesman confirmed officers went to the scene following a report from the public about suspicious activity in the area.
"A juvenile male was arrested at the scene following the incident and a second male in his late teens was arrested in a follow-up operation near Milford. They are both detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act at Letterkenny," he said.
The incident is under investigation by Letterkenny Gardai and the scene is preserved pending a technical forensic examination.
Two cars are also preserved for technical examination. One of two cars was earlier taken, without the consent of the owner, from a house in the area.
