Grieving mourners said a last farewell to teenager Mark Waters, when they packed Maguiresbridge Church of Ireland Parish church yesterday (Sunday March 29, for his funeral service.
Mark 17, from Lisolvin Park, Brookeborough died on Thursday night (March 26), when the car in which
he was a passenger collided with trees ar Newbridge Road near Lisnaskea.
Addressing mourners Rev David Skuce, spoke of the dangers involved in being on the roads for any driver, specifically the power there is behind a car and acceleration, that we often don't realise. He warned of the need to consider road and weather conditions, and road worthiness of vehicles.
"Young people don't think they are going to die, and don't realise the fragility of life, they think they are invincible," he said.
He also spoke of the sadness and grief caused for the family involved and their friends.
Mark Waters was an apprentice plumber and was hoping to develop a career with his new skills. He had been due the take his driving theory test the morning after he died (Friday). His parents received details of the car insurance policy he had applied for, in the post that morning too ( Friday). Mark Waters' young life was cut short before he ever had an opportunity to finish the driving lessons he had started and to fulfil his personal goal of passing his driving test.
His grandmother Madeleine Waters described him as a "little saint", a boy who was well mannered, loved music and was popular with everyone who knew him.
His parents Cormac and Janet, appealed to young people to take great care on the roads, and to slow down, saying they don't want any other parents to go through the grief and loss they have experienced.
Mark was buried in the cemetery adjoining the parish church.
