Northern Ireland's voting public is being reminded that the closing date to be included in the electoral register, to vote at the European Election is April 7.
Unionist Assembly member for Fermanagh South Tyrone, Tom Elliott MLA is keen to remind people to ens
ure they are registered.
Mr Elliott said: "There has been a widespread advertising campaign being launched by the Electoral Commission over recent weeks and registration and ID clinics are opening across Northern Ireland from start of April."
He said: "These clinics in Fermanagh South Tyrone are open in Fermanagh District Council offices on April 2, from 4.30pm-7.30pm and in Dungannon at Ranfurly House on April 3, from 4.30pm-7.30 pm. I would urge people not currently registered to avail of his service," he said.
"I would again remind people that the last date to register under continuous registration is Tuesday April 7. Thereafter whilst there is a new provision under late registration which can be lodged up to May 19 2009 you will have to meet far stricter late registration evidence requirements and will not be eligible for either a postal or proxy vote. It is important that if people do not have one of the prescribed identity documents that they should apply immediately, closing date for electoral identity card is May 22, 2009," he said.
If any person is in doubt about whether they are registered, they can contact a dedicated telephone helpline, 0800 4320 712 or e mail info@eoni.org.uk with name, address and DOB, he said.
