Enniskillen scenic island town
Enniskillen, in County Fermanagh is a scenic island town set right in the heart of the areas majesti
c lakelands and acres of rural domains of great natural beauty and dramatic landscapes.
The busy market town's historic bridges span Lough Erne's waters as they flow from the upper to lower lough around uninhabited island towards the mighty Atlantic Ocean.
A good place for visitors to start their tour of Fermanagh is Enniskillen Castle, with its magnificent turrets, Watergate, castle keep and cobbled court yard, once the home of the medieval Maguire Clan, and the Inniskillings Regiments. Today, that history and heritage is much celebrated in interactive displays and story board at Fermanagh County Museum and at the Royal Inniskillings Regimental Museum.
There are so many charming places to stay in Fermanagh, to soak up the excellent hospitality with a range of wonderfully grand hotels, bed and breakfasts, country and farm guesthouses, and hostels. There are also facilities for caravans and campers.
Enniskillen also has its very own airport, at St Angelo where business is booming. For the corporate visitor, conference venues with first class facilities are plentiful. Restaurants and pubs provide warm welcomes and art galleries offer accessible creativity.
Opportunities for activities are everywhere whether your interest is in walking, hill walking, horse riding; golfing; cycling or enjoying the water cruising in boats; windsurfing; water skiing; canoeing; sailing; theatre or coarse and game angling, or relaxing on the MV Kestrel and taking a trip to visit historic Devenish Island. It is a haven for eco-tourists, and a great place to explore ancient sites.
One of Northern Ireland's finest wonders is the underground limestone Marble Arch Caves and European Geopark, and Cuilcagh Mountain Park and conserved bogland is located in County Fermanagh.
Fermanagh is also home to the world famous Belleek Pottery.
The county boasts three National Trust properties at Castle Coole, Florence Court and Crom
Estate.
Throughout the year, here are various car rallying, equestrian, arts and angling events.
Fermanagh's location close to the border with the Republic, makes it an attractive destination for retail therapy. Shops at Enniskillen, Lisnaskea and Irvinestown and many beautiful villages welcome Euro trade. The Buttermarket Craft and Design Centre in Enniskillen town centre is packed with creative people and craftworkers and is a haven for coffee and has studios and workshops where you will always find something a little but unique and different.
